LIST OF ISSUES
COMMUNITY
We live in a very political and angry time. I want to ensure that our district is responsive to all of the members our community. We need our schools to teach tolerance and respect for other people’s opinions. We need to make sure that our schools are open and welcoming to people of all races, cultures, religions, orientations, religious beliefs, and political beliefs. We also need to remember the most important thing our schools need to focus on is the education for the children and refrain from promoting any negative outside political or ideological agendas.
EDUCATION
We need to expand trade pathways. College is important, it is the right choice for many students, and we have a lot of resources for our students who choose this route. However, there are a lot of good paying trade skill jobs that need highly trained workers. I would love to see our students get the opportunity to learn these valuable skills. My grandfather was an electrician with Southern California Edison, and I saw first hand how these skills can lead to financial stability. I want these opportunities for our kids.
ACCOUNTABILITY & AUTONOMY
I would like to make sure that our staff get the support that they need to do their job to the best of their ability. This would include ensuring both autonomy and accountability for both our staff and management teams. Some school districts are very top down in structure where teachers and staff follow programs and curriculum that they do not believe in. This does not work well. Some school districts give their staff autonomy without accountability. This also does not work well. I would like to ensure that the school board and management team have the best information and data possible so that we can make the best choices for our community. This includes looking at test scores and the use of soft skills by our management team.
